Day out Volunteers Atlantikwall Museum Noordwijk
About 25 volunteers with or without a partner enjoyed their annual day off on Saturday 21 November. The trip was this time to the National Military Museum in Soesterberg. Here they got a tour of the extensive museum from experienced guides. After the tour, lunch was enjoyed in the De Stoeterij close to the museum.
With a well-filled belly of the excellent luncheon lunch, they went on the road again to see the other part of the foremost airbase Soesterberg, namely the shelters who provided protection during the Cold War to the American soldiers and jet fighters stationed there.
Then the return trip with the coach of the Royal Beech was accepted again. All in all a successful and well deserved day.
50.000th visitor
On 6 September, the museum received the 50.000th visitor since it opened in 2004.
It concerns the Klein family from Roelofarendsveen. They visited the museum with a group of 11 people.
Chairman Victor Salman presented an attention and a bouquet of flowers.
Donation AED device
On 17 September, a delegation from the charitable committee of the Rotary Noordwijk en Omstreken handed over an AED device to the board and volunteers of our museum. With this device we have secured even more the safety of our visitors (now more than 7000 per year) and our volunteers.
Many volunteers are already ER officers, others can have the opportunity to follow the AED course through the Volunteer Support Center Noordwijk.
Afterwards a drink and a bite, of course bunker cheese from Peter den Elzen.
Garnet
A grenade was found on excavation work in the northern part of the complex on Saturday 18 July (left picture). Police warned. They ruled that the grenade was in a safe place and could later be detonated. That happened Monday morning, July 20th (right picture).
National bunker day
The European Heritage Foundation Atlantikwall organized a bunker day on 6 June, during which bunkers were opened at 30 locations. Noordwijk could not be lacking and therefore the Atlantic Wall Museum Noordwijk Foundation also opened its doors and corridors. A result that may be there. More than 600 visitors have found their way to Noordwijk.
Between Noordwijk and Katwijk, American and Canadian vehicles drove to transport people from the Katwijks Museum to Noordwijk and vice versa.
Opening
With great interest from volunteers, donors and sponsors, the new museum was reopened in the dunes on 2 May. The reopening was done by Mr. J. Rijpstra, mayor of the municipality of Noordwijk. At the front left is Mr. V. Salman, chairman of the Atlantic Museum Noordwijk Foundation.
